There are some duplicates (especially in the beginning) but many are different.

 LESSON ONE – FCP 5 - Working with the Interface

1. Name three ways to launch Final Cut Pro.

Use the Zoom control in the Timeline, the Zoom In or Zoom Out tool, or shortcuts Option+ or Option-.  Press Shift-Z to see the entire sequence in full view

 

10. How do you hide Final Cut Pro?  How do you restore it?  And how do you quit the program?

Press CMD-H to hide the application.  To restore it, click the application icon in the Dock.  To quit, press Cmd-Q

 

LESSON TWO – FCP 5 - Marking and Editing

1. Name three ways to open a clip

Double-click the clip in the Browser, drag it to the Viewer, or select it and press Return

 

2. How do you mark a clip?

Use the Mark In and Mark Out buttons in the Viewer, or the keyboard shortcut, I and O

 

3. How do you set a specific duration from the In point or head of a clip?

Enter the amount in the Timecode Duration field

 

4. How do you re-adjust an edit point using In or Out marks?

Drag an In or Out mark in the Viewer

 

5. When viewing an audio clip, what do you see instead of a video image?

You see a waveform display of the sound.  All marking functions are the same

 

6. Which keyboard shortcuts can be used to move the playhead directly to an edit point?  Which do you use to remove edit points?

Press Shift-I or Shift-O to go to an In or Out point.  Press Option-I or Option-O to remove and In or Out point.  Press option-X to remove both marks at the same time

 

7. Name three ways to create a new sequence

Choose that option from the File menu, press Cmd-N or Ctrl-click in the Browser and choose New Sequence

 

8. When you open a clip in the Viewer, what do you see in the Timeline track area?

The representative source tracks from the clip appear as source controls in the Timeline track area.

 

9. Before making an edit, what two things should you do to ensure proper placement of the clip?

Position the playhead where ou want to place the clip in the sequence, and patch the source controls to the desired destination track

 

10. List three ways to edit a marked clip as an Overwrite edit

You can drag the marked clip into the Canvas and drop it into the Overwrite section of the Edit Overlay, click the red Overwrite button or press F10

 

11. List three ways to insert a clip into a sequence

You can drag the clip into the Insert section of the Edit overlay, click the yellow Insert button or press F9

 

12. How do you edit a sound clip into a sequence?

Click the appropriate edit button or shortcut

 

13. How do you duplicate a sequence?

Ctrl-click in the Browser and choose Duplicate from the shortcut menu.

 

 

LESSON THREE – FCP 5 - Drag and Drop Editing

1. To select a clip in the Timeline, you click it once.  Name two ways to deselect it

Click in the gray empty space above the track or press Shift-Cmd-A

 

2. How do you change a clip's location in the Timeline?

Drag the clip or select it and enter a move amount

 

3. What are the keyboard shortcuts you use to copy and paste a clip in the Timeline?

Cmd-C copies a selected clip, and Cmd-V pastes the copy

 

4. What are two ways to turn snapping off or on?

Press N, or click the Snapping button in the Timeline

 

5. When dragging clips directly to the Timeline, your pointer changes as you position the clip depending on the type of edit you're making.  When you're making an Overwrite edit, what type of arrow does your pointer change into?  What is it for an Insert edit?

The downward arrow is for an Overwrite edit.  The forward arrow is for an Insert edit

 

6. When you edit a video clip directly to the Timeline, you drag from the image area of the clip.  How do you edit directly to the Timeline using an audio-only edit?
