Title Safe & Action Safe overlays necessary because broadcast video is bigger than TV viewable area

Video Generators – Viewer button or Browser Effects tab
     Bars, Tone, Slug, Color mattes, Gradients, Text

Open new Text in Viewer
     Controls tab has attributes to modify text (font, size, tracking, leading, origin etc.)
     Motion tab has drop shadow
 
Adding Lower Third to identify people
       Superimpose edit – drag to purple superimpose in Canvas Edit Overlay
Alpha Channel in all text for transparency

Boris – 4 text generators – more options – Boris has a separate window for controls
      Tabs for – Text Style, Text Wrap, Text Fill, Edge Style, Shadow Type
      With Boris you can change font size, style, color, etc.  Can't do this with plain Text generator

Scrolling Text – for credit roll
       Use * to create gap between title and name.  Change gap width
       Clip will scroll at speed to match duration – shorter clip moves faster

Opacity can be changed on any video clip:  In motion tab of Viewer –or- Video Overlay (Option W)

Video Generators –
     Matte – two types of color matte –
          FX script (original FCP plugins)
          FXPlug – latest protocol, part of Motion
     Render – has patterns and movement.  Many options for changing a style

Composite image can be created in Timeline because of Alpha Channel   -   stacked tracks
Keyframe Graph area in Viewer
       Set Keyframes with diamond keyframe button.  Reset all with red X
       Once a keyframe is set, others are auto-generated if playhead is moved and attribute changed

Nesting -
Edit one Sequence into another Sequence – stacked tracks are Nested
      Drag sequence from Browser into target Sequence
      Drag to Viewer to Insert Edit but you cannot double-click it into Viewer (goes to Timeline)
      Make changes to Nested Sequence by opening the Nest

Master Templates made in Motion
       Accessed in View Video tab or Browser Effects tab
       Some editing can be done in FCP
       More extensive editing by CTRL-click – Send to Motion.   This is called Round-tripping           

Graphics – many types supported in FCP (TIFF, JPEG, PNG)
     Multi-layered files like Photoshop PSD's come in as a Sequence

Pixel dimensions of video determine resolution (720x480,   1440x 1080)
      Beware Square (graphics) versus Non-Square (video) pixels
      Photoshop has defaults templates to make graphics for video. 
            Otherwise:
                 720x540 resize to 720x480 for NTSC
                 768x576 resize to 720x576 PAL
