NTSC – US standard – 29.97 fps          PAL – European standard – 25 fps    

In Browser – a space before the name sorts to top, underscore before name sorts to bottom

Clips with speed changes are noted in Timeline name as %

Transition defaults: Video – Cross Dissolve       Audio – Cross Fade

Audio Transitions – crossfade 0dB,  Crossfade 3dB (underlined so it is default)

Video Transitions – 9 bins – Dissolve bin – 7 choices 
             Cross dissolve is underlined  
             Effects in bold play in RT (real time)

Applying transition –
         Select edit point; Effects > Video Transitions> Dissolves> Cross dissolve
         Target edit point with playhead  Up/Down arrow to next;  V to nearest
         Effects > Last > Cross dissolve
         Drag effect icon from Browser to Timeline, release left, center or right
         Command T to apply default Video transition at playhead or highlighted edit point
         Option Command T for default Audio transition

Align transition at start or end if there is not enough media.   Use Slip tool to see handles
Resize by dragging edge of Transition in Timeline.  Info box shows new duration
            OR  CTRL-click to change duration and alignment

Set new default transition – Effects > Set Default  -or-  CTRL-click in Browser, choose Set as Default

3 ways to paste a copied Transition
            Command V   -   CTRL-click, choose Paste    -    Select Original Transition, Option Drag
Select multiple clips in Timeline, Drag to Canvas Overlay, Drop on Overwrite with Transition
        This adds default transition – Playhead MUST stay at the start of first clip!

Transitions Editor – Lists type of transition; buttons for start, center and end; pointer can Roll edit L/R;
       Light blue bar is each clip's handles; Change is shown in Canvas Two-up; Updated in Timeline
       Drag hand to copy transition

Some transitions have other parameters to change such as: color, center, aspect, etc.
     Little red X to reset

Previewing and Rendering – Playback depends on hardware
     Some effects must be rendered.  This creates a clip in Render Files Folder

Timeline – upper left – RT pop-up
     Unlimited RT - plays as much as possible in real time but with dropped frames
     Safe RT -  only plays if it will not drop frames
     Dynamic – gives the best quality possible for each effect

Lines above Ruler in Timeline show render status –      Video – top    Audio – bottom
        Red – needs to be rendered to play in RT
        Orange – can play at lower quality if Unlimited RT selected
        Yellow – can play with approximation
        Green – can play at a lower quality
        Dk Green – effect with no rendering required
        Steel Grey – rendered
        Dk Steel Grey – no rendering required

To preview in slow time without rendering – Option P  -or-  Option \  -or-  Mark/ Play Every Frame

Render choices under Sequence menu:
      Render Selection – only highlighted clip
      Render All – anything in the Sequence that needs to be rendered
      Render Only – render only certain levels of render in the Sequence
